Our Story
Approved Home Improvements officially opened its doors in 1991, but our roots go back much further. Our owner, James, is a third-generation mason who learned many of the techniques he uses today from his father. He started the business over 30 years ago with a handful of clients, and he quickly grew Approved into one of St. Louis’s top chimney repair companies.
Our mission is to give clients the knowledge they need to keep their homes safe, not just repair their chimneys. Many of our clients don’t realize that they’re one misstep away from a major flue fire, and we help them understand why. We do whatever it takes to keep you safe, from explaining the materials you can and can’t burn to installing a spark arrestor.
It’s the little things we do that make us stand out. Our team members always wear company uniforms and drive branded trucks. We lay down tarps to keep your home spotless during a chimney sweep. Instead of replacing original flues with cheap metal liners, we take the time to install clay tiles. That’s why Approved has earned our reputation as a trustworthy, honest chimney repair company.
Meet Our Owner: James Anderson
James Anderson is a third-generation mason who has 37 years of experience in the industry. He founded Approved over 30 years ago as a full-service home improvement company. You can find his work in hundreds of homes around St. Louis—some of which he built from the ground up. Recently, James decided to focus on what he and his crew know best: chimney sweeping, repairs, and tuckpointing.
James’s specialty is chimney restoration. He diagnoses complex chimney issues and performs personalized repairs for every client. Instead of fixing small problems to make your chimney passable, he fully restores your chimney to its original look. Most importantly, James makes sure your chimney is as safe as possible, so you don’t have to worry when you relax by the fire.
